The History

A small village with distant roots, it was an important fiefdom of the Malaspina family (particularly between the twelfth and thirteenth centuries) which expanded the existing church as proof of the importance the village had acquired. From the fifteenth century onwards, it passed into the hands of a Genovese family, which renovated the church, making it even more attractive.

Worth seeing

The ruins of the imposing "Maldido" fortress built by the Malaspinas to defend their fiefdom. The church of San Nicolò, built after the eleventh century, was rebuilt after the Second World War, which fortunately did not destroy the coloured terracottas inside it. The Ethnographic Museum gathers together interesting testimonies and instruments that tell the story of the Lunigiana's peasant civilisation.

The Cuisine

This land of farmers offers dishes that are reminiscent of yesteryear, created with humble ingredients. The "testaroli" and "panigacci" are present here as well, and are delicious served with different sauces or simply served with oil and cheese. Alternatively you can try the different types of grilled meats.
